![]() ![]() What I really like about this is that it on of my most accurate creations when it comes to design:Ĥ doors, a bonnet and a trunk that can all be opened,Īn accurate recreation of the chassis and functional rear suspension!Īnyways, here's a little something I wrote to get you into that nice feeling of hittin' the road: Yeah, so BIG shoutout to hank313 here who gave some good advice and kept motivating me from start to finish, sometimes with memes, sometimes with tips and sometimes with simply being a nice guy to talk to.Īnd generally, this might not be my most elaborate creation, but certainly the biggest of all my cars so far.Īnd if you want to see the results of me gradually loosing my mind, just have a look at the fenders. Who needs a beefy pick up truck when you can have an R4 that'll get you over the alps? With multiple models like the CL or the GL that were adapted to the course of time while still keeping the R4's iconic look within the 30 years of its production, this car perfectly showcased Renault's ingenuity at creating something truly iconic and unreliably reliable for generations to come. Luckily though, they quickly realized that crime against basic economy and shut the R3's production back down in 1962. Who could imagine that a cheaper version of an already cheap substitute car wouldn't kick off? Great job. Other than that obvious mistake in marketing, the R4 was revolutionary in many ways: for starters, it was the first mass-produced hatchback (over 8 million built by the end of production in 1994) and Renault's first attempt at a family car with an engine in the front.Īnother mistake in marketing the R4 was the commission of a car that was even more rudimentary than the R4 would ever be, the R3, which had less windows than its big brother, an ugly front and less engine power. The Renault 4L, despite its small appearance, has everything you'd want in a car: great suspension, a spacious trunk, 4 seats and some legroom!įirst sold in 1961 as a cheaper alternative to the already cost-efficient Citroën 2CV, the Renault R4 was initially promoted as, (and I kid you not), a 'short family wagon'. Well, until its engine got rusty and a screw loose and just. I personally cannot imagine a better reliable unreliable car to hit the narrow roads of Europe with than the R4, and neither could my grandparents back in the 70s! Sitting in the car (or on the train), listening to music, letting the world pass and wishing to never arrive at your destination, just sitting there and looking out, forever.Īs a frequent traveler, I certainly know how it feels! Pretty sure we all have lived through this at least once: ![]()
